Dynamic Modeling and Simulation of Buildings Energy Performance Based on Different Climatic Conditions

Abstract: The aim of this work is the analysis, under dynamic conditions, of the energy performance of buildings based on different climatic conditions. Two school buildings, Liceo Classico "E. Duni" and Liceo Scientifico "D. Alighieri", located in Matera, Italy, are considered. Furthermore, a strategy to improve the energy performance of the two school buildings is proposed by the installation of a co-trigeneration plant integrated with a solar plant. Such a plant is equipped with an absorption chiller to produce chill… Show more

“…Main pillars are the application of European directives [1] for enhancing the performance of new buildings and the renovation of existing ones and energy conservation measures [2,3,4]. Main drivers for energy consumption in buildings are climate, building physical characteristics, destination use, users characteristics, occupant behavior, socio-economic factors, and indoor air quality requirements [5].…”

“…The retrofitting solutions will take into account will concern the building envelope (e.g., windows replacement, insulation of the opaque envelope), the increase of the heating system efficiency (e.g., boiler replacement, control system improvement) or the use of renewable energy resources (e.g. solar thermal plant or solar photovoltaic (PV)) [27]. This step can also be performed with a participative approach.…”

“…It is noticed that considering different climatic zones is fundamental because weather conditions highly affect building energy performance, as shown by Genco et al [16]. Buildings are assumed to have a rectangular geometry and a structural frame in reinforced concrete, with vertical walls in hollow bricks.…”
