Dynamic Mechanical Hysteresis of Magnetorheological Elastomers Subjected to the Cyclic Loading and Periodic Magnetic Field

Abstract: Magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) is one of the most promising smart materials with excellent magnetic-control mechanical properties. This work focuses on the study of the dynamic mechanical properties of MRE under cyclic loadings and periodic magnetic field. The influences of matrix, particle distribution, magnetic field on the dynamic mechanical hysteresis are systematically investigated. It is found that all the normal force, magnetic fields and shear strain would cause a hysteresis in the dynamic mechanic… Show more

“…For the synthesis of PU elastomers, diisocyanate such as aromatic or aliphatic, macrodiol such as polymeric diol, and small molecule diol or diamine as chain extenders are used to form a copolymer. Macrodiol sequence is a soft-segment and diisocyanate and chain extender sequence are a hard-segment to have the character of elastomer [ 75 , 76 , 77 , 78 ]. In order to provide mechanical properties such as the elastomer of the PU, the soft segment generally has a glass transition temperature substantially lower than the desired service temperature, and the hard segment has a glass transition temperature or melting temperature much higher than the desired service temperature.…”

“…It therefore has been successfully applied in the fields of noise reduction [17], vibration attenuation [18,19], soft robots [20], smart sensing [21], electromagnetic shielding [22], etc. The MR effect computed by the ratio of the magnetic-induced modulus to the initial modulus is the most significant feature of MREs, which essentially is the strengthened magnitude of dynamic mechanical behaviors of the material [23]. The MR effect of MREs is just like that of magnetic-induced Bingham fluid ribbon in MRF.…”

“…The MRE manufacturing process involves three steps: mixing, curing, and aligning the magnetic particles under an external magnetic field. *acidwolfvx@rambler.ru The characteristics of the synthesized material are influenced by both the composition of the polymer matrix used (silicone rubber, natural rubber, polyurethane elastomer and others), and the conditions of synthesis and stabilization of particles in a magnetic field [13][14][15]. The paper describes the technology for the synthesis of MREs based on polyurethanes and an installation for aligning magnetic particles.…”
