Dynamic load balancing architecture in heterogeneous wireless network environment

Abstract: This paper discusses load balancing architecture among heterogeneous wireless networks (HWNs). Load balancing is an important issue for efficient use of radio resources not only in a single network but among different Radio Access Technologies (RATs) in HWNs. Cooperative management of radio resources among heterogeneous RATs is considered to reduce imbalance of utilization of radio resources and enhance availability of the system. For effective load balancing, we define a "community" concept, in which radio re… Show more

“…A load balancing scheme, based on fuzzy logic algorithm is proposed in [15] for a 3G and WLAN HetNet, which focuses on the utilisation fairness. In [16], the authors propose a load balancing algorithm to improve network utilization and call blocking probability. A policy based resource management framework is presented in [17] for Cellular-WLAN integrated network, which improves the network utilization by dynamically balancing the offered traffic load via call admission control (CAC) and vertical handoff (VHO).…”

“…The non-3GPP inter-working system architecture defined by 3GPP allows efficient utilization and management of multiple access technologies and facilitates, for example, load-balancing [33], off-loading [34], and optimal access to operator managed services offered by the IMS [26]. However, for legacy Internet applications, such as the overthe-top video (OTT) services [35], it may not be feasible always to route all the traffic through the 3GPP CN.…”
