O presente estudo foi realizado em uma empresa de grande porte produtora de joias localizada na região norte do Brasil. Foi realizado um estudo de caso, partindo da análise e aplicação de tempos e métodos, no processo de montagem de matriz de borrachas, que apesar de parecer simples, o layout inicial utilizado era pouco produtivo e não atendia a demanda do processo, o que resultava em impactos para a empresa, como: parada de linhas e falha no controle de estoques. Com o objetivo de buscar eficiência, agilidade nos processos e aumentar a capacidade produtiva, buscou-se o balanceamento de processo. Utilizando a crono análise, pôde-se encontrar o tempo efetivo que agrega valor ao processo, o que resultou em uma proposta de alteração de layout, além da utilização do gráfico de balanceamento de operadores (GBO) que otimizou o processo estudado, sem que houvesse elevação de custos e alteração de mão de obra.

This research was conducted to enhance the productivity of the targeted sewing line at the ABC textile company. The existing SAMs, the capacity of the sewing line for various operations, and several required machines were collected. Moreover, the obtained figures were observed and analyzed by using time study and motion study, and certain improvements were made at the sewing line. Results indicated that SAMs for operations A and B were minimized by -13.64% and -14.54% respectively; whereas, SAM for operation C was increased by 16.67%. Machine requirement for operation C was increased by 100%; moreover, the capacity for operations A, B, and C was increased by 12%, 12.69%, and 40% respectively. When it is to production activities, the little improvements play a significant role in boosting the productivity of the production system. Optimal allocation of human resources, machines, and time are the benefits of line balancing. This can be made possible with the application of the line-balancing framework. With every passing day, the nature and type of article vary at the sewing line thus it is highly needed for the company to get the model developed for an automated line balancing application. Moreover, this work can be extended by the development of a line-balancing framework considering the nature of production.

PurposeAssembly line is a common production form and has been effectively used in many industries, but the imprecise processing time of each process makes production line balancing and capacity forecasting the most troublesome problems for production managers. In this paper, uncertain man-hours are represented as interval grey numbers, and the optimization problem of production line balance in the case of interval grey man-hours is studied to better evaluate the production line capacity.Design/methodology/approachFirst, this paper constructs the basic model of assembly line balance optimization for the single-product scenario, and on this basis constructs an assembly line balance optimization model under the multi-product scenario with the objective function of maximizing the weighted greyscale production line balance rate, second, this paper designs a simulated annealing algorithm to solve problem. A neighborhood search strategy is proposed, based on assembly line balance optimization, an assembly line capacity evaluation method with interval grey man-hour characteristics is designed.FindingsThis paper provides a production line balance optimization scheme with uncertain processing time for multi-product scenarios and designs a capacity evaluation method to provide managers with scientific management strategies so that decision-makers can scientifically solve the problems that the company's design production line is quite different from the actual production situation.Originality/valueThere are few literary studies on combining interval grey number with assembly line balance optimization. Therefore, this paper makes an important contribution in this regard.
