Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS)

Abstract: Focus a laser on dissolved particles and analyze the scattered light to reveal their size. This well established principle is used in dynamic light scattering (DLS), or also called photon-correlation spectroscopy, which is a widely popular and highly adaptable analytical method applied in different fields of life and material sciences, as well as in industrial quality control processes. Fluctuations of elastic laser light scattering due to the particle's individual Brownian motion in a solvent can be

“…The HD of the colloidal NP-FA sample was higher than the particle size, with a mean value of 78 nm (measured in intensity mode) and a polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.16. A PDI value < 0.2 reflects the size homogeneity of the sample [ 27 ].…”

“…Dynamic light scattering is a useful technique to investigate the size distribution and dispersity of nanoparticles or macromolecular complexes in solution [ 24 , 25 ]. For the monodispersed P. viva x Pdx1 solution, DLS showed a hydrodynamic radius of R H = 7.3 ± 0.9 nm ( Figure 1 f), confirming its dodecameric state in solution [ 22 ].…”
