Dynamic elastic properties of brick masonry constituents

Abstract: When subjected to dynamic loading, materials can exhibit a mechanical behaviour quite different from its static counterpart. The evaluation of dynamic properties is thus very useful in the assessment of existing masonry structures. This paper presents results of an experimental campaign to determine both the dynamic Young's modulus and the shear modulus of brick masonry constituents through two non-destructive testing methods. Following a discussion on the reliability of the methods, a robust procedure is desc… Show more

“…That consistency is also obtained for all other saturation degrees, given that the moisture conditioning there consists of supplying a preset amount of water to the sample. Resultantly, these large variations in V most possibly come from the natural variability in the mechanical properties of the samples, similar to the cases for dry samples [53,54]. One explanation is that there are tiny cracks and fissures in samples.…”

“…The needed power for the real-time controller was supplied through a constant current power supply. The signal conditioner, together with this power-supply, assured the constant current excitation to the sensors required for proper operation [ 49 ]. The program used for data acquisition was able to record the acceleration time-history from the two connected accelerometers simultaneously [ 49 ].…”
