Abstract:To cope with 'Post-2020', each country set its national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target (e.g., South Korea: 37%) below its business-as-usual level by 2030. Toward this end, it is necessary to implement the net-zero energy building (nZEB) in the building sector, which accounts for more than 25% of the national GHG emissions and has a great potential to reduce GHG emissions. In this context, this study conducted a state-of-the-art review of nZEB implementation strategies in terms of passive strategies (i.e., passive sustainable design and energy-saving technique) and active strategies (i.e., renewable energy (RE) and back-up system for RE). Additionally, this study proposed the following advanced strategies for nZEB implementation according to a building's life cycle: (i) integration and optimization of the passive and active strategies in the early phase of a building's life cycle; (ii) real-time monitoring of the energy performance during the usage phase of a building's life cycle. It is expected that this study can help researchers, practitioners, and policymakers understand the overall implementation strategies for realizing nZEB.

This study proposes a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) composed of the superconducting energy storage system (SMES) and the battery. The system is designed to compensate power fluctuations within a microgrid. A novel control method is developed to share the instantaneous power between the SMES and the battery. The new control scheme takes into account the characteristics of the components of the HESS, and the battery charges and discharges as a function of the SMES current rather than directly to the power disturbances. In this way, the battery is protected from the abrupt power changes and works as an energy buffer to the SMES. An new hardware-in-loop experiment approach is introduced by integrating a real-time digital simulator (RTDS) with a control circuit to verify the proposed hybrid scheme and the new control method. This paper also presents a battery lifetime prediction method to quantify the benefits of the HESS in the microgrid. A much better power sharing between the SMES and the battery can be observed from the experimental results with the new control method. Moreover, compared to the battery only system the battery lifetime is quantifiably increased from 6.38 years to 9.21 years.

At present, with total building energy consumption accounts for about 21.33% of the energy consumption of social terminals, the building energy consumption has a tendency to continue to grow. According to the geographical location of users and the local weather conditions, we analyze the energy resources available to users and design a multienergy complementary coupling system. We have taken full account of the use of renewable energy and recovery of waste heat resources. Large-scale increase of electrical equipment, a large number of charging load access to the grid, the power system planning, operation and operation of the electricity market will have a profound impact. The current mode of the supercapacitor and the DC bus determines the mode of operation of the converter. Based on a detailed analysis of each working mode, we design a corresponding control scheme and achieve a smooth transition and switching between modes. Simulation and experiment verify the correctness and effectiveness of the converter and hybrid energy storage control strategy.
