Dynamic characteristics of planar linear array deployable structure based on scissor-like element with joint clearance using a new mixed contact force model

Abstract: This paper aims at investigating precisely the dynamic performance of deployable structure constituted by scissor unit mechanisms with clearance joint. Based on the motion law in real joints, the contact model is established using an improved Gonthier nonlinear continuous contact force model, and the friction effect is considered using LuGre model. Moreover, the resulting contact force is suitable to be included into the generalized force of the equations of motion of a multibody system and contributes to repl… Show more

“…Subsequently, a considerable amount of experimental and theoretical works associated with clearance joints have been reported in various studies. [22][23][24][25] Furthermore, the influences of the constitutive force model, [26][27][28][29][30][31] different computational parameters, 32,33 and link flexibility [34][35][36] on the dynamic responses of multibody systems have been explored. Based on the foundation of Hertz contact law, Hu and Guo 29 presented a new dissipative contact force model for impact analysis in multibody dynamics.…”

“…However, many of these research papers focus on the planar systems with rigid links in which only one kinematic joint is modeled as an imperfect joint. 11,13,16,[18][19][20][21][22][23][25][26][27][28][29][30][31]33 The results from such experimental and analytical models have been shown to provide important insights into the behavior of mechanical systems with clearance joints, but the models do not allow for the interactions of multiple kinematic clearance joints. In a real mechanical system, all joints should practically be real, and the dynamic behavior of one clearance revolute joint cannot be used as a general case for a mechanical system.…”

“…Therefore, Sun [11] proposed a simple way based on the screw theory to study the rigid body dynamics of a spatial deployable structure with SLEs. Li [12] researched dynamic characteristics of the deployment process of a planar deployable structure constituted by SLEs with joint clearance. In their researches, the deployable structures with SLEs are regarded as rigid bodies, so elastic vibration and deformation are ignored for dynamics.…”

“…Over the past three decades, deployable structures have been extensively used in space missions because they own the properties of high stiffness, low mass, and small folding volume [1][2][3][4]. And with the rapid development of aerospace industry, higher demands for these structures have been proposed.…”
