Dynamic Behavior of Dust Particles in Plasmas

Abstract: Experimentally observed dynamic behavior, such as a particle circulation under magnetic field, a bow shock formation in an upper stream of an obstacle, etc., will be reviewed. Dust particles confined in a cylindrical glass tube show a dynamic circulation when strong magnetic field is applied from the bottom of the tube using a permanent magnet. The circulation consists of two kinds of motions: one is a toroidal rotation around the tube axis, and the other is a poloidal rotation. Dust particles are blown upward… Show more

“…Dusty plasma is a partially ionized and low-temperature plasma consisting of additional suspended micronsized charged dust particles, which is known for being an ideal domain for experimental and theoretical studies of basic collective behaviors in relevant nonequilibrium flows system of nature [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. When the suspended dust particles are numerous, the interaction with the background plasma and neutral gas constitutes a range of interesting fluid-phases phenomena such as waves, instabilities, vortices, void, and other nonlinear structures [2,[8][9][10][11].…”
