Dynamic bandwidth partition schemes for integrated voice, video, and data traffic in the IEEE 802.11e distributed wireless LANs

Abstract: SUMMARYIn mobile cellular networks, bandwidth is deterministic in terms of the number of channels by frequency division, time division, or code division. On the other hand, bandwidth partition schemes in the contentionbased medium access control (MAC) in distributed wireless LANs are extremely challenging due to the contention-based nature, packet-based network, and the most important aspect: only one channel available, competed by an unknown number of stations. In this paper, we study this challenging issue. … Show more

“…Since IEEE 802.11 MAC is a contention‐based wireless MAC, we plan to examine the impact contention has on the system's performance, by increasing the number of nodes and applications, on the image retrieval process. Moreover, we will investigate the effect of multiple data flows on the image retrieval process, in terms of delay, fairness, and so on and suggest improvements, as carried out in . Furthermore, we plan to extend the experiments and to evaluate the performance of other compact descriptors from the recent literature such as and .…”

“…According to the previous introduction depicted in Section 1, the proposed FCS‐VN involves the following: (1) layered streaming; (2) streaming over wireless networks; (3) bandwidth aggregation; (4) cooperative transmission; and (5) vehicular networks. In these years, many researchers analyzed and discussed the pros and cons of video streaming over wireless networks . Because the long delay and high packet loss rate of wireless networks induce poor quality for video streaming, layered video streaming is adapted over wireless networks .…”

“…Moreover, we will investigate the eect of multiple data ows on the image retrieval process, in terms of delay, fairness etc. and suggest improvements, as done in [69]. Furthermore, a plan is to extend the experiments and evaluate the performance of other compact descriptors from the recent literature such as [70] and [71].…”
