“…In work [9] dynamic and kinematic loads of a jib crane when lifting a fixed load from below to a mountain were investigated. Lagrange's equation of the second kind was used to construct the mathematical model.…”
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the energy parameters of tower cranes when using a frequency-controlled drive mechanism. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that existing tower cranes quickly become obsolete. However, there is an alternative to buying new cranes – the modernization of existing ones with the improvement of their parameters and the scientific justification for increasing the efficiency of work. The following methods are used for research: method of equivalent power and the methods of metal fatigue theory. The main scientific novelty is the approach to assessing the possible increase in the service life of crane elements when using a frequency drive based on the theory of fatigue. Also presented are examples of equivalent power calculations for the working cycles of the turning mechanism with various forms of speed change in acceleration and deceleration modes. Numerical estimates are given for increasing the service life of the main types of welded joints with different values of stress concentration factors. Showing ways to further improve the efficiency of tower cranes and their mechanisms due to more optimal transients. The proposed approaches can be used when choosing the type of drive for the designed crane or to evaluate the economic efficiency of replacing the drive.

“…In the article [8], the dynamic and kinematic loads of a jib crane when lifting a load are investigated. Lagrange's equation of the second kind was used to construct the mathematical model.…”
The article firstly reviews the current level of research on the dynamics of tower cranes. The publications covering research on the dynamics of crane systems and issues related to sway and trajectory of a load on a flexible suspension are considered. Taking into account the actual characteristics of the drive in dynamic models of tower cranes remains an urgent issue and is the aim of this study To achieve this goal, a multi-mass dynamic model of a tower crane with a slewing tower was obtained, where the drive of the slewing mechanism is taken into account as a separate mass. This approach is the main scientific novelty of this article and enables determination of the forces in elastic connections and other dynamic and kinematic characteristics of the movement depending on changes in the control parameter of the slewing mechanism motor. At the same time, it is possible to take into account the change in torque through the equation of mechanical characteristics, which allows to additionally take into account the influence of internal processes in the drive. When writing the system of equations describing this system, the Lagrange equations of the second kind were used. The resulting mathematical model takes into account the inertial (moments of inertia, reduced masses), elastic and damping characteristics of the structure. The complex movement of the load in both planes is considered. A numerical calculation is performed based on the parameters of a real crane. The change in the drive control parameter during the working cycle is modelled according to different laws.
“…It was only with the passage of time that mechanical aids and various devices were developed to facilitate the transport of heavier loads which humans could not move without the aid of these devices [3,5,11]. The motion of these devices was ensured by human or animal power, and it was over time that energy of water (a mill) or wind energy began to be used to power some of the devices [4,6,12]. Mechanical power was achieved by means of a steam engine for the first time.…”
The paper is a continuation of the issue of the technical solution of a mast type jib crane for handling sludge pumps. It serves for the use in the building no. 900, block V2, of the nuclear power plant Jaslovské Bohunice. It is an optimization of the original, in-service damaged handling device with manual control of lift and rotation. It was found that the lifting force permanently falls within the recommended range of 120 to 160 N for convenient operation by a single worker. The problem of pulling out the sludge pumps ingeniously provided the opportunities to further design changes on the original design. The solution offered was to scrap the original design of the carrier inserted into the support and replace it with a fixed mast on which the boom would rotate. Accordingly, it would potentially be feasible to increase the load capacity of the jib crane, and thus the issue of the sludge pumps attached to the tank bottom would be solved.
