Mobile broadband networks are continuously faced with the challenge of limited resources due to the increasing demand for high speed Internet services. To manage these resources, call admission control (CAC) which determines whether or not a connection request should be accepted or rejected is one of the resource management techniques usually deployed. A Dynamic QoS-aware CAC algorithm was recently proposed to improve resource utilization. However, the algorithm detects congestion of the network only after it has occurred, which leads to increase in blocking probability and thus lead to reduction in throughput. In this paper, a congestion control call admission control (CC-CAC) algorithm is proposed to reduce call blocking and increase throughput of all connection classes. The CC-CAC employs a congestion control mechanism that regulates the base station buffer to operate at a target threshold. It also employs a dynamic bandwidth degradation mechanism to degrade the resources of the admitted connections when resources are not sufficient to admit more connections. The algorithm is evaluated using simulation. The results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the benchmark scheme in terms of decrease in blocking probability and increase in throughput for all connection classes.

This paper proposes a new mechanism of path selection and admission control for IPTV in IEEE 802.16j simultaneously. The proposed mechanism takes into account some constraints of Quality of Services (QoS) which are required by real-time applications, such as available bandwidth, end-toend delay, number of hops between MR-BS and SS as well as quality of radio signal. With all these four constraints, selecting the best path becomes a multi-objective optimization problem, since we have two criteria to maximize and two other criteria to minimize. It makes selection process of the optimal path more difficult to find a solution in polynomial time. To solve this multi-constrained problem, the proposed approach applied a cost function which simplifies the multi-objective problem into single objective. This function provides a deterministic solution which takes into account all the above constraints. To evaluate the proposed mechanism, we study the performance of the proposed approach through various simulation scenarios. The results show that the proposed mechanism outperforms other studies.

In this paper, we propose a vehicular passenger mobility-aware bandwidth allocation (V-MBA) scheme in mobile hotspots. The V-MBA scheme consists of both call admission control and bandwidth adjustment functions to lower handoff vehicle service dropping probability and efficiently utilize resource of base station. Specifically, a handoff priority scheme with guard bandwidth is employed to protect handoff vehicle service. Also, bandwidth is dynamically assigned to each vehicle by exploiting vehicular passenger movement pattern that includes getting on and off events at a station. We evaluate the V-MBA scheme by developing a continuous-time Markov chain model. Simulation results demonstrate that the V-MBA scheme can guarantee low new vehicle service blocking probability and handoff vehicle service dropping probability through flexible bandwidth allocation.Index Terms-Mobile hotspots, vehicular passenger mobilityaware bandwidth allocation, call admission control, bandwidth adjustment.
