“…(3,5,40) This percentage, however, is lower than that of the 1992 study conducted in Singapore, which reported that 55.3% of women who experienced a threatened miscarriage in the first trimester progressed to a complete miscarriage at any time during their pregnancy. (22) The shorter follow up duration in our study, and possibly improvements in the management of threatened miscarriage over the years, may account for this discrepancy.…”

“…The difference in the rate of abortion may be due to the time period of treatment between the studies. Studies from Poland and Malaysia have reported that dydrogesterone supplementation has protective effects on threatened abortion (11,12). A systematic review (13) also reported a 13% (44 of 335) miscarriage rate after dydrogesterone administration compared with 24% in control women (odds ratio for miscarriage 0.47, 95% CI ¼ 0.31-0.7, and an 11% absolute reduction in the miscarriage rate).…”

“…Although a meta-analysis by Haas and Ramsey [133] did not confirm any positive role for progesterone in sporadic miscarriage, a further subgroup analysis of women with RSM in that study showed that progesterone therapy was positively associated with a significant reduction in the miscarriage rate in those with RSM compared with placebo or no treatment. Duphaston (dydrogesterone, a synthetic progesterone), administered as tablets, was not only significantly associated with a prolongation of pregnancy in patients with threatened miscarriage but was also significantly associated with successful viable pregnancies and a reduction in miscarriages in patients with RSM who were treated with duphaston [134,135]. Duphaston therapy has been associated with a shift of Th1 to Th2 cytokines, and thus, contributes to the promotion/progression of pregnancies.…”
