Duration of Dual Antiplatelet Therapy After Implantation of Drug-Coated Balloon

Abstract: The drug-coated balloon (DCB) is an emerging percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) device with theoretical advantages and promising results. Recent clinical observations have demonstrated that DCB tends to have both good efficacy and a good safety profile in the treatment of in-stent restenosis (ISR) for both bare-metal and drug-eluting stents (DES), de novo coronary artery disease (CAD), and other situation, such as high bleeding risk, chronic total occlusion, and acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Dual antipl… Show more

“…In fact, current practice guidelines recommend aspirin and clopidogrel DAPT for patients suffering from CAD or monotherapy for patients with symptomatic PAD, regardless of clinical background [ 49 ]. However, there is controversy over the duration of antiplatelet therapy in view of the different lesion sites and stent types [ 50 ]. Cristian A Dámazo-Escobedo et al [ 51 ].…”

“…Compared with DES, implantation without a foreign body seems to be an obvious advantage of DCB. There is no inflammation caused by the implantation of foreign body ( 89 ). Theoretically, the DAPT time after the implantation of DCB should be shorter than that of the DES group.…”

“…Drug-coated balloon (DCB) allows the release of anti-proliferative agents to the vascular wall through a semi-compliant balloon without leaving any metal, which can inhibit the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells ( 7 ). DCB has been reported to have good efficacy and safety for in-stent restenosis and new-onset small vessel disease ( 8 ). DCB could also be a promising treatment modality for SB ( 5 ).…”
