Superamphiphobicity is an effect where surface roughness and surface chemistry combine to generate surfaces which are both superhydrophobic and superoleophobic, i.e., contact angles (yCA) greater than 1501 along with low contact angle hysteresis (CAH) not only towards probing water but also for low-surface-tension 'oils'. In this review, we summarize the research on superamphiphobic surfaces, including the characterization of superamphiphobicity, different techniques towards the fabrication of surface roughness and surface modification with low-surface-energy materials as well as their functional applications. Superamphiphobicity is an effect where surface roughness and surface chemistry combine to generate 5 surfaces which are both superhydrophobic and superoleophobic, i.e., contact angles ( CA ) greater than 150° along with low contact angle hysteresis (CAH) not only towards probing water but also for lowsurface-tension 'oils'. In this tutorial review, we summarize the research on superamphiphobic surfaces, including the characterization of superamphiphobicity, different techniques towards the fabrication of surface roughness and surface modification with low-surface-energy materials as well as their functional 10 applications.

Nature provides a range of functional surfaces, for example, water-repellent or superhydrophobic surfaces, most common among them the lotus leaf. While water-repellency is widespread in nature, oil-repellency is typically limited to surfaces submerged in water, such as fish scales. To achieve oleophobicity in air, inspiration must be taken from natural structures and chemistries that are not readily available in nature need to be introduced. Researchers usually turn to fluorinated materials to provide the low surface energy that, when combined with bioinspired surface topography, is the key to unlocking oil-repellency. This review presents the state-of-the-art in the fabrication of superoleophobic surfaces.

Th is chapter is dedicated to deal with membrane surface sensitivity as a powerful tool to direct events such as fouling mitigation, self-cleaning, liquid fl ows and self-repairing. Wettability and self-healing concepts are discussed through the chapter with emphasis on the attractive opportunity to combine diff erent strategies for switching and adjusting morphology and chemistry of the surfaces depending on desired target. Membrane ability to cause in situ-cleaning, liquid diff usion, selfrestoring and auto-recovery is argued in relation to self-adjustment, adaptability and actuation mechanisms.
