Durability under thermal loads of polyvinyl alcohol fibers

Abstract: In the present paper, the thermal durability of polyvinyl alcohol fibers (PVA) was studied after fiber samples had been subjected to temperatures ranging from 90°C to 250°C. Residual mechanical properties, such as tensile strength, elastic modulus and elongation at break, and physical properties, such as density were determined. Weibull statistics were used to quantify the degree of variability in fiber strength, at the different temperature. In addition, thermal analysis of PVA fibers were carried out employi… Show more

“…The trend of the stress-strain curve of the bond is similar to the stress-strain curve of the PVA fibers in tension [11], which means that the bond is provided mostly by the PVA fibers. The tensile bond behavior was presented in previous numerical and experimental study [5], where the tensile stress-strain relation is expressed by a cubic parabola up to the failure without any softening brunch (Figure 5a)), where Δu is the relative normal displacement of the spring and Δutu is its ultimate relative normal displacement.…”

“…The fibers used in this study were PVA fibers (trademark REC15), manufactured by Kuraray Co -Japan, with a diameter of 40 lm, density of 1.31 g/cm 3 , elastic modulus of 39.93 ± 1.90 GPa, tensile strength of 1576.20 ± 60.90 MPa [17]. According to thermal analysis reported in Fig.…”
