Durability, strength, and stiffness of compacted gold tailings – cement mixes

Abstract: Compaction and Portland cement addition are amongst promising ground improvement procedures for enhancing the mechanical properties of gold tailings. The present investigation intends to compute the impact of Portland cement content and dry density on the properties (durability, stiffness, and strength) of compacted gold tailings – cement mixes. Its main significant addition to knowledge is the quantification of accumulated loss of mass (ALM) after wetting–drying cycles, shear modulus at small strains, and unc… Show more

“…Until now, the n=B-index has been used to correlate the tensile, uniaxial, and triaxial strength and stiffness of different binder-treated soils (Consoli et al 2007(Consoli et al , 2010(Consoli et al , 2011(Consoli et al , 2017b(Consoli et al , 2018. The porositybinder concept has not yet been applied to grouted soil, particularly foam-grouted soil.…”

“…Considering that construction waste slurry has high water content, large cement content is necessary for achieving expected strength [19][20][21]. Consoli considered unconfined compressive strength (q u ) as a function of the porosity/cement index of compacted gold tailings-cement mixes [22]. Javdanian and Lee employed particle swarm optimization algorithm to estimate the unconfined compressive strength of stabilized cohesive soils using geopolymers [23].…”
