Durability and Time-Dependent Properties of Low-Cement Concrete

Abstract: The sustainability concerns of concrete construction are focused both on the materials’ eco-efficiency and on the structures’ durability. The present work focuses on the characterization of low cement concrete (LCC), regarding time-dependent and durability properties. LCC studies which explore the influence of the formulation parameters, such as the W/C (water/cement ratio), W/Ceq, (which represents the mass ratio between water and equivalent cement), W/B (water/binder) ratio, and the reference curves, on the … Show more

“…Concrete is one of the major construction materials widely used for infrastructure and building construction across the world. The durability of concrete structures is primarily influenced by the movement of both gaseous and liquid substances via the system of pores, which can possibly result in the deterioration of the quality of concrete [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. The ability of concrete to withstand the intrusion of these aggressive agents is mainly characterized by permeability.…”

“…However, the size of FA particles was also fine grading with well-developed surfaces ( Figure 1 ). The small particle size of the SF and FA have a beneficial effect on the parameters of strength and fracture mechanics as well as physical parameters of concretes with these additives, e.g., [ 83 , 84 , 85 ].…”

“…Researching the durability of concrete with low dosages of cement was the concern of Robalo et al (2020) [6]. Two dosages of cement were used, one of 350 kg•m -3 with high plastic consistency and the other of 250 kg•m -3 with dry consistency, combined with the addition of fly ash and limestone filler.…”
