Dupuytren's Disease and exposure to vibration: Systematic review and Meta-analysis

Abstract: Introduction: Dupuytren's Disease (DD) occurs frequently in the entire population. Several risk factors are well known, including diabetes, alcohol, and age. In this meta-analysis, we assessed the role of occupational vibration exposure in the risk of DD, an issue currently under debate. Methods: We searched PubMed, Google Scholar, and the Cochrane Library to find references up to June 2019. DD prevalence was calculated using meta-proportion analysis. Differences in characteristics between DD patients and cont… Show more

“…Diabetes appears to have long been recognized as a risk factor for the development of DC, although the exact mechanism has not been fully understood [ 11 , 13 ]. The results of a meta-analysis found that the proportion of diabetes in DC patients was significantly higher than that in control [ 14 ]. In addition, studies have found that the incidence of DC in diabetic patients is 10 times that of nondiabetic people, and DC is also considered to be one of the complications of diabetes.…”

“…The primary limitation of this study is the number of patients lost to follow-up which raises the possibility of non-responder bias. This study also relied upon self-reporting of HAVexposure and data relating to vibration frequency were unavailable, however this limitation is consistent with previous studies [1,7].…”

“…It’s Dupuytren’s contracture. You might think of asking him what his occupation is—perhaps he uses vibrating instruments 5. You’ll also ask him questions relating to his drinking habits, thinking about chronic liver disease,6 and ask about symptoms of diabetes mellitus 7.…”
