Ductal Adenocarcinoma of the Prostate: A Case Report

Abstract: Ductal adenocarcinoma is an unusual variant of adenocarcinoma of the prostate. A 73-year-old male was referred to our hospital for the further examination of an elevated prostate-specific antigen level of 23.4 ng/mL. Radical prostatectomy (RP) was performed based on the diagnosis obtained by a prostate needle biopsy. The RP specimen revealed ductal adenocarcinoma of the prostate with positive capsular penetration. We herein report a rare case of ductal adenocarcinoma of the prostate.

“…Ductal PC is a rare histologic subtype, accounting for 0.4% to 0.8% of all prostate malignancies and associated with poor prognosis. [1][2][3] Most patients with ductal PC have normal PSA levels that limit biochemical disease follow-up. 4 18 F-labeled PSMA compounds have been recently introduced, promising higher diagnostic accuracy due to higher image quality and longer half-life of 18 F enabling higher clearance at later time point imaging.…”

“…A new PSMA-expressing presacral nodal mass (arrowhead) was seen (SUV max , 4.4), in keeping with metastatic disease. Ductal PC is a rare histologic subtype, accounting for 0.4% to 0.8% of all prostate malignancies and associated with poor prognosis 1–3 . Most patients with ductal PC have normal PSA levels that limit biochemical disease follow-up 4 .…”
