Dual‐view 3‐D display with multiple resolutions

Abstract

A dual‐view 3‐D display with multiple resolutions is proposed. The proposed 3‐D display consists of a 2‐D display panel and a parallax barrier. The parallax barrier can project the parallax image on the 2‐D display panel into views and form several viewing zones. By making viewing zones overlapping, the proposed 3‐D display can improve the resolution of the image in the overlapped area and provide multiple resolutions. Finally, the resolution is improved at the center area of a viewing zone, where there is high‐probability viewing position of the observers. A prototype is developed to verify the principle. The experimental results show that the proposed 3‐D display can improve resolution.
