Dual Search Maximum Power Point (DSMPP) Algorithm Based on Mathematical Analysis under Shaded Conditions

Abstract: Photovoltaic (PV) systems represent a clean, renewable source of energy that has non-linear current-voltage (I-V) and power-voltage (P-V) characteristics. To increase the efficiency, a PV system must operate at the maximum power point (MPP) to produce the maximum available power. Under uniform conditions, there is only a single MPP in the P-V curve of a PV system; however, determining the MPP is more complicated under partially shaded conditions (PSCs) because multiple peak power points exist. In recent years,… Show more

“…In the proposed method, the proved idea [37] that the GMPP cannot be located at the right side of the new reference voltage is used. In [37], a modified linear function was presented which calculates the new reference voltage when PS happens to reduce the search zone from the left side of the P-V curve and, simultaneously, the controller starts to scan the possible MPPs at the right side of the P-V curve. In this case, the both side of the GMPP are considered at the same time by limiting the search zone and simultaneously scanning from right to left.…”

“…Furthermore, when the operating point is near possible MPPs, the smaller value is considered for d to prevent the controller from missing the MPPs. In this method, as explained in [37] in detail, some important notes are considered. The first note is that under PSCs with multi peak powers in the P-V curve, the values of other MPPs are decreased on both sides of the GMPP when the GMPP is achieved.…”

“…The output (in this case it is the duty cycle D) is generated by looking up in a rule base table [18]. The fuzzy output is converted back to a numerical variable from a linguistic variable during defuzzification [19][20][21][22][23]. The design of both FLCs differs in their patterns and ranges, as to reflect effectiveness of buck and boost operations, respectively.…”

“…The photovoltaics (PV) module is currently being researched to increase electrical output [1]. In terms of methods for improving electrical output, there are studies on increasing the efficiency of c-Si solar cells and reducing the series resistance of solar cells and PV modules [2][3][4].…”
