Dual Rectangular Ring With Open-Ended CPW-Fed Monopole Antenna for Wimax/Wlan Applications

Abstract: Abstract-A coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed planar monopole antenna with triple-band operation for worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) and wireless local area network (WLAN) applications is presented. The antenna comprises dual rectangular ring with open-end. The triple operating bands with 10-dB returnloss bandwidths of about 30.8% ranging from 2.2 to 2.97 GHz, 23.4% ranging from 3.17 to 3.99 GHz, and 25.4% ranging from 4.91 to 6.31 GHz, covering the required bandwidths of 2.4/5.2/5.8 GHz WLAN… Show more

“…These applications require compact antennas to satisfy the severe constraints on physical dimensions of portable equipments and to avoid the use of multiple antennas by integrating the receiving and transmitting functions on the same antenna. There are many antenna configurations and techniques proposed to achieve dual-band or multi-band characteristics for (WLAN/WiMAX) applications such as the ring patch antenna [4][5], the monopole antennas [6], the slot antennas [7]. Recently, researchers have focused on using metamaterial concept in performance enhancement as well as miniaturization of the microstrip antennas [8][9].…”

“…Planar monopole antenna design is a proper device to achieve UWB and multiband operating characteristics [10][11][12][13][14][15]. Another important feature of planar monopole antenna is monopole-like radiation pattern which is omnidirectional.…”

“…In order to operate as such systems, the antenna must be in small size and provide better performances than antenna operating in free space environments [6][7][8][9][10][11]. Based on the previously reported research works, printed monopole antenna has become a major field of interest due to its compact size, omni-directional radiation patterns, large bandwidth (BW) and high radiation efficiency [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]. The printed monopole antenna has therefore been chosen for WiBAN application, due to the aforementioned characteristics.…”
