Dual Porosity Expanded Polytetrafluoroethylene for Soft-Tissue Augmentation

Abstract: This novel dual porosity expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is associated with reduced inflammation and more extensive tissue incorporation as compared with the currently available form. These results suggest a dual porosity expanded polytetrafluoroethylene may provide a superior material for soft-tissue augmentation.

Similar techniques, with appropriate modifi cations, could be applied during proximal femur and proximal tibia reconstructions.…”

“…These materials are an improvement from other described alloplastic and autologous materials because they are relatively inert, are nontoxic, and have a relatively low complication rate. More recently, the use of ePTFE has gained popularity and is considered the gold standard for isolated soft tissue augmentation and replacement 12 13 , 16 . Although useful, ePTFE remains as a permanent, nonvascularized implant for the lifetime of the patient.…”

“…The touted advantage of Advanta TM and its advance over Softform TM are in its dual porosity implant design. 4,5 Essentially, the outer portion is e-PTFE with a porosity of 50 mm. The inner core is a high or open porosity of 100 mm.…”
