Dual-polarization nonlinear Fourier transform-based optical communication system

Abstract: New services and applications are causing an exponential increase in internet traffic. In a few years, current fiber optic communication system infrastructure will not be able to meet this demand because fiber nonlinearity dramatically limits the information transmission rate. Eigenvalue communication could potentially overcome these limitations. It relies on a mathematical technique called "nonlinear Fourier transform (NFT)" to exploit the "hidden" linearity of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation as the master… Show more

“…At the receiver, the NFT is applied to the received signal for transformation into the nonlinear spectral domain. The estimation of the differential informationφ d,k andθ k is done according to (25) and (26). For estimating the common informationφ c,k and∆t according to (27), we still use the MBR equalization.…”

“…Our precoding scheme is generally applicable to multi-solitons. Therefore we secondly adapt our simulation to the experimental second order soliton transmission scheme in [25], where only phases of b 1 (λ k ) and b 2 (λ k ) are independently QPSK modulated.…”
