Dual-Modified Novel Biomimetic Nanocarriers Improve Targeting and Therapeutic Efficacy in Glioma

Abstract: Glioma is a fatal disease with limited treatment options and very short survival. Although chemotherapy is one of the most important strategies in glioma treatment, it remains extremely clinically challenging largely due to the blood−brain barrier (BBB) and the blood−brain tumor barrier (BBTB). Thus, the development of nanoparticles with both BBB and BBTB penetrability, as well as gliomatargeting feature, is extremely important for the therapy of glioma. New findings in nanomedicine are promoting the developme… Show more

“…Moreover, PLGA's acidic by-products in degradation may render them inappropriate for extended use in in brain (Yang, 2010). Compared to PLGA nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carrier based on natural lipids are more biocompatible, since they need not use of organic solvents during their fabrication and their degradation products may not influence the extracellular/intracellular environment (Fu et al, 2019).…”

“…Recently, RBC membrane-covered solid lipid NPs were synthetized and functionalized with T7 and NGR peptides absorbed on their surface [70]. Loading these NPs with vinca alkaloid vincristine (VCR), showed anti-glioma effectiveness both in vitro and in vivo.…”

“…The CD13 receptor also plays a crucial role in promoting angiogenesis in receptor-mediated anti-angiogenic therapy. Over recent years, D WSW-and NGR-modified nanocarriers have been developed (23)(24)(25)(26).…”
