Dual-inverter-based MPPT algorithm for grid-connected photovoltaic systems

Abstract: A novel MPPT algorithm for three-phase gridconnected photovoltaic generation systems is presented in this paper. Reference is made to a conversion scheme consisting in two balanced arrays of PV modules, each one feeding a standard two-level three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI). The dc-link voltages of each VSI are regulated according with the requirement of the proposed MPPT algorithm, based on the comparison of the operating points of the two PV arrays. Inverters are connected to grid by a three-phase tr… Show more

“…The third group contains the "dynamical" techniques (73)(74)(75)(76)(77)(78)(79)(80)(81)(82)(83)(84). The fourth group includes all the techniques that do not belong to the first three groups such as the dual-module-based MPPT technique (85)(86)(87), the TEODI technique (88)(89)(90), and the array reconfiguration techniques . In this survey, the most important MPPT techniques belonging to the above groups have been discussed and analyzed.…”

“…Therefore, according to the experience of the authors, only the most important known MPPT techniques belonging to the fourth group have been selected and will be analyzed in Section 5. They are the dual module-based MPPT technique (85)(86)(87), the TEODI technique (88)(89)(90), and the array reconfiguration techniques . In the following sections, all the topics that have been summarized above will be discussed and analyzed.…”

“…In the case of a single DC source, common mode currents can be prevented either by an additional three phase common mode reactor or by the application of a proper Space Vector Modulation algorithm. In this last case, common mode voltages are not generated by the inverter but at the price of lower DC bus voltage utilization [39,[43][44][45][46]. E. Hybrid NPC-MFGCIs (HNPC-MFGCI): This topology consists of an NPC-MLI operated using a grid switching frequency and a twolevel standard inverter as shown in Fig.…”

“…For grid-connected systems, the cost is further reduced due to the elimination of battery requirements, which is the second largest contributor to the cost of a PV system. The stand-alone PV systems require to be controlled with a well-designed maximum power point tracker (MPPT) in order to decrease the effects of variable irradiation values (Ansari et al, 2010;Schimpf and Norum, 2008;Liu et al, 2008;Kwon et al, 2008;Grandi and Ostojic, 2009).…”
