Dual frequency cavitation event sensor with iodide dosimeter

Abstract: The inertial cavitation activity depends on the sonication parameters. The purpose of this work is development of dual frequency inertial cavitation meter for therapeutic applications of ultrasound waves. In this study, the chemical effects of sonication parameters in dual frequency sonication (40 kHz and 1 MHz) were investigated in the progressive wave mode using iodide dosimetry. For this purpose, efficacy of different exposure parameters such as intensity, sonication duration, sonication mode, duty factor a… Show more

“…The cavitational activity of the different coupling media used in the LFU experiments was estimated using potassium iodide (KI) dosimeter as a standard method. 34,35 In this method, when KI solution is sonicated, the generated reactive radicals oxidize the I − to produce I 2 . The excess of I − reacts with I 2 to form triiodide (I − 3 ).…”

“…In physiological conditions of 37 C and using low intensity, non-thermal effects can be the dominant effect and the main interaction ie, acoustic cavitation is important. According to the studies, 22,23,32,33 the stable cavitation without collapse and the ability to apply stress without chemical activities produces beneficial effects in low intensity and low frequency. The phenomenon of acoustic cavitation is quantified by the mechanical index parameter.…”
