Dual embedding of extended models with a Lorentz-breaking mass term

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate a CPT-even model with a Lorentz-violating mass term. Such kind of models may present very interesting features like superluminal modes of propagation or even instantaneous long-range interactions. The mass term we investigate can be induced at classical or quantum level in a scenario with spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking in a gauge-Higgs model without Lorentz symmetry. We analyze the physical consistency of the model by studying the poles of the propagator. By using the Noether… Show more

“…Many aspects like the quantum induction of Lorentz-breaking mass terms for the photon [57], the construction of a Stueckelberg Lagrangian in a generalized R ξ gauge [58], and spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking in a Lorentz-violating gauge-Higgs model [59] were investigated. In [60], some aspects of this kind of gauge symmetry breaking were focused in a study of dual models.…”

“…Nevertheless, in some cases, it is not simple to check if the new modes spoil the gauge theory obtained with the process of dualization. Examples are the dualized Lorentz-violating models treated in the papers [16], [17], [18] and [19]. It is not obvious that the ghosts and the physical particles decouple in these models.…”

“…In this paper, we will focus on the model of the reference [18]. The model is a modified QED, which incorporates two CPT-even Lorentz-breaking terms: a mass part of the type −(1/2)m 2 (g µν − βb µ b ν ) and the kinetic aether-like term of [20], − ρ 2 (b µ F µν ) 2 , in which β and ρ are dimensionless parameters and b µ is a background vector.…”

“…The analysis of the consistency of the CPT-odd photon sector was performed in [15]. Also, there are possibilities for mass generation from massive Lorentz violating coefficients of CPT-even, and the study of the consistency of these models was performed in [16,17].…”
