Dual‐band reconfigurable coding metasurfaces hybridized with vanadium dioxide for wavefront manipulation at terahertz frequencies

Abstract: In this article, we propose a frequency reconfigurable reflective coding metasurface hybridized with vanadium dioxide (VO 2 ) meta-atoms for wavefront manipulation at terahertz (THz) frequencies using the Pancharatnam-Berry (PB) phase principle. At room temperature, the meta-atoms can achieve a nearly constant 180 reflection phase difference illuminated by linearly x-and y-polarized waves while maintaining almost consistent reflection amplitude within 3.76 to 3.84 THz, corresponding to the conductivity of σ VO… Show more

“…The metasurface had a simulated wideband deflection of ~28 • at 0.8 THz (Figure 7c). Embedded VO 2 with resonant structures for a multifunctional coding metasurface was also presented numerically [91,[93][94][95]]. An experimental demonstration of VO 2 -based reconfigurable beam steering was presented in [89] (Figure 7d).…”

“…Recently, metasurfaces have attracted worldwide attention. Due to their extraordinary ability to control electromagnetic waves, some types of them have been utilized to reduce RCS of target, such as artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) [8], polarization conversion metasurface (PCM) [9], metamaterial absorber (MA) [10,11], and digital coding metasurface [12][13][14][15][16][17]. However, most of these applications of metasurfaces are not combined with the antennas, or they are designed separately.…”
