Dual-Band On-Body Repeater Antenna for In-on-On WBAN Applications

Abstract: A dual-band on-body repeater antenna for in-on-on wireless body area network applications is proposed. The proposed antenna has a maximum radiation normal to the human-body surface for communication with implanted devices in the 5.8 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band. In addition, to transmit the biological information received from the implanted devices to other on-body devices, the proposed antenna was designed to have a monopole-like radiation pattern along the surface of the human body for … Show more

“…To analyze the effect of the human body on the antenna performance, the antenna is located d mm above a two-thirds muscle-equivalent phantom [13]. On the other hand, in on-body mode, resonance at 5.8 GHz was achieved by the higher-order mode of the circular patch on the bottom layer.…”

“…Recently, antennas with monopole‐like radiation characteristics have been proposed . Half‐hemispherical dielectric resonator antenna , higher mode microstrip patch antennas , and square‐ring patch antenna have been suggested, but the large height of these antennas is not suitable for on‐body communication. In , a low‐profile antenna was realized by using gap coupling with parasitic elements.…”
