Dual-Band Dual-Linearly Polarized Transmitarray at Ka-Band

Abstract: We present here the design and the optimization of a dual-band dual linearly-polarized transmitarray antenna with a 1-bit phase resolution (i.e. two phase states with 180° of relative phase-shift). The antenna operates in both downlink and uplink K/Ka-bands (17 -21 GHz for the lower frequency band, and 27 -31 GHz for the upper one) and could be used for satellite communication applications. In order to implement dual-band and dual-polarization, the unit-cell consists of four orthogonal superposed U-slotted pat… Show more

“…This configuration leads to a much more compact lattice size. This technique has already been introduced in our preliminary paper [15]. The unit-cell stack-up is made of five metal layers (Rx patch for the uplink, Rx patch for the downlink, ground plane, Tx patch for the downlink, and Tx patch for the uplink) printed on four different dielectric substrates.…”

“…A shared-aperture dual-band/dual linearly polarized AFA UC design has been proposed in [6]. If compared to the interleaving strategy, which is typically used to implement multi-band TA, the advantage of the proposed design methodology is the possibility to minimize the period of the UC.…”

“…Unit-cells (UCs) based on Antenna-Filter-Antenna (AFA) [2], [6] or Frequency-Selective-Surface (FSS) [3], [7] are typically used to design TAs. AFA architectures with metallized vias have been employed up to 140 GHz [6].…”

“…None of the antennas reported in the state-of-the-art literature have shown the desired antenna performance characteristics of both simultaneously having dual-band operation with a high frequency-ration and lowfrequency beamforming capabilities. Some antennas reported in the literature satisfies parts of the requirements, but unlike the antenna presented in this paper none of them covers all the listed requirements simultaneously [16], [18], [22], [24].…”
