Dual Axes Solar Tracker

Abstract: Photovoltaic (PV) is one of the most important sources of renewable energy in the world. Its current efficiency could be increased up to 60% by using dual axes solar tracker, which maximise PV exposure to sun. The most important component in dual axes solar tracker is sensing location of the sun. Four light dependent resistors (LDR) are used as the sensors, connected to potentiometers to increase their accuracy. Arduino UNO is used as the controller to control two stepper motors. Two experiments have been carr… Show more

“…Depending on climate specifications of each geographic area, many clean sources of energy solutions can be advised [2], [3], with the aim of solving the energy crisis, climate change, and global warming, the most abundant renewable sources of energy is solar energy [4], it can be exploited to produce electricity by using photovoltaic solar panel or concentrated photovoltaic, or to produce thermal energy by using solar concentrators such as Fresnel mirrors concentrators [5], parabolic trough collectors [6]. Solar trackers systems are required in the cases of solar concentration systems such as Fresnel mirrors concentrators, parabolic trough collectors and concentrated photovoltaic, while in the case of photovoltaic panels, the sun trackers are not mandatory, but allows better performances that can reach 40 to 60% [7], [8] in comparison to a static photovoltaic panel, depending on weather conditions.…”

“…There are several methods of dual and single-axis tracking methods that have been done previously by others. Examples are microprocessor-based tracking [5], using webcam and computer controlled [9], GPS based tracking using astronomical equation [10,11] or solar maps [12], RTC-based algorithm [13], simple light dependent resistor (LDR)-based tracking [14], or thermal expansion of material connected to a lever [15]. Solar panel systems may be self-sustained or powered up through external power.…”

“…The outdoor performance of photovoltaic (PV) solar energy systems faces several challenges for its better functioning and interpretation of various effects, such as degradation (Cotfas and Cotfas, 2019;da Fonseca et al, 2020;Cornaro and Musella, 2013), temperature increase (Ostenwald et al, 2015;Carrillo et al, 2017), reflections, angular losses and variations in air mass (Amillo et al, 2015;Senthilarasu et al, 2015). To keep up with this evolution, not only module technologies need to be improved, but also inverter technologies, solar tracking systems, installation and maintenance procedures (International Renewable Energy Agency -IRENA, 2019; Hashemzadeh, 2019;Ibrahim et al, 2018). In addition, deepening the understanding of the performance of cells fabricated using different technologies (especially the influence of the spectral changes (Ishii et al, 2011)) is relevant for better experimental procedures and to the development of the technologies.…”
