DSPACE‐based implementation for observer backstepping power control of DFIG wind turbine

Abstract: This work develops a real‐time implementation on the DSPACE environment of an adaptive non‐linear control strategy for a wind energy conversion system (WECS) based on the doubly‐fed induction generator (DFIG). The DSPACE‐DS1104 board is directly associated with an experimental bench of a wind power system. The non‐linear backstepping controller has been realised to control the active and reactive powers of the DFIG connected directly to the electricity grid via two converters (grid side and machine side). Firs… Show more

“…In this section, we present some works in the field of control of wind systems, such as classical sliding mode control, direct torque control and vector control. Bossoufi et al (2017) [1] This paper discussed a non-linear control applied to a WECS-DFIG and developed the Backstepping Adaptive control based on the Lyapunov stability technique to make WECS works in better conditions. According to this study, the major problem encountered in most control algorithms was in terms of robustness.…”

“…Faced with a growing demand for energy caused by overpopulation throughout the globe and the Monopoly of countries on the industrial field and the more or less long-term depletion of fossil fuels, traditional energy sources are less and less abundant and different alternatives have been considered. Following the oil crises, some countries have pursued a nuclear-oriented policy while others have massively used renewable energies with the adoption of wind power [1].…”

“…As illustrated in Figure 1, the essential elements of a WECS based on a DFIG are a turbine, a speed box, a DFIG, and a back-to-back converter. The stator is fundamentally connected to the network in WECS applications, whereas the rotor is connected to the back-to-back converter [25]. mation about the system at the initial temporary instant.…”

“…Because of the coupling between the active and reactive power, it is evident that the dynamic model Equation ( 8) is strongly nonlinear. For a study of this equation, use the Lyapunov function [18,19], which is divided into two steps:…”
