Dry Contact Transfer Printing of Aligned Carbon Nanotube Patterns and Characterization of Their Optical Properties for Diameter Distribution and Alignment

Abstract: A scalable and facile approach is demonstrated where as-grown patterns of well-aligned structures composed of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) synthesized via water-assisted chemical vapor deposition (CVD) can be transferred, or printed, to any host surface in a single dry, room-temperature step using the growth substrate as a stamp. We demonstrate compatibility of this process with multiple transfers for large-scale device and specifically tailored pattern fabrication. Utilizing this transfer approach, a… Show more

“…The VA-CNTs were synthesized as previously reported using a one-wire HF-CVD with Catalyst (1 nm Fe and 10 nm Al 2 O 3 ). 48 28 While, the VA-GNR, Mo 2 C-GNR and Mo 2 C were synthesized by four-wires HF-CVD. The VA-CNTs carpets were loaded into the CVD furnace chamber ~ 3-6 mm below the hot filament.…”

“…[19][20][21][22][23] The transference of CNTs films to a variety of supports is of great importance. This transference step is commonly carried out with chemical vapor deposition (CVD) films 24,25 using different methods including dry-transfer, 26 imprinted conductive adhesive, 27 functionalization of CNTs, 28 transfer printing, 29 contact printing, 30 stacked multiple transfer, 31 spin coating of a polymethylmethacrylate film, 32 using the growth substrate as a stamp, 33 one-step direct transfer, 34 laser assisted, 35 or using polydimethylsiloxane. 36 Growing CNTs onto a catalyst and subsequent sputtering 37 and spray deposition 38 are other ways that yield good results.…”

“…The diameter range was 1-6 nm with an average diameter of ∼2.7 nm. 31 The as-grown lines of aligned SWCNTs are vertically oriented with respect to the growth substrate, their length determined by the duration of catalyst exposure to the growth conditions. A high temperature (750…”
