Drug-Related Pneumonitis in Cancer Treatment during the COVID-19 Era

“…Additional evaluations suggested in the current guidelines include pulmonologist consultation; sputum/blood culture and complete blood count; pulmonary function tests; pulse oximetry; arterial blood gases; pharmacokinetic analysis using a blood sample (if feasible); and a standard infectious disease evaluation to rule out infectious causes, [5] including viral pneumonias such as COVID-19 and influenza [81]. “…Bleomycin, platins, methotrexate, taxanes, gemcitabine are the most common chemotherapeutic agents causing drug-induced ILD in cancer patients. 2,6 Here we report a case of alpelisib-induced ILD in a patient with PIK3CA-mutated, HR-positive, and HER2-negative advanced breast cancer. Alpelisib is the only targeted agent approved for patients with PIK3CA-mutated, HR-positive, and HER2-negative advanced breast cancer patients who had been treated with endocrine therapy ± CDK inhibitors.…”
