Drug photoallergy

Abstract: Drugs are one of the representative exogenous agents that cause photosensitive dermatitis. Both phototoxic and photoallergic mechanisms exist in photosensitivity to exogenous agents. While the phototoxic reaction is mediated mainly by reactive oxygen species, the photoallergic reaction is induced and elicited by immunological consequences. Two hypotheses have been put forward to explain the formation of photoallergen: prohapten and photohapten. The vast majority of clinically photoallergic drugs are photohapte… Show more

“…93,94 We also believe this approach can be adapted to investigate other skin pathologies involving ROS and free radicals, such as photoallergic contact dermatitis (PACD) and photo irritation, critical photosensitivity diseases related to exposure of the skin to xenobiotics. 95 Both are adverse reactions caused by the combined exposure to photoreactive chemicals in contact with the skin and light (UVA, UVB, and/or visible).…”

“…Previous reports suggest another immunomodulator has potential to induce photosensitive dermatitis (1,4). Mogamulizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting CCR4, was shown to induce photosensitive dermatitis (4), possibly due to serving as an immunomodulator, but not as a photoantigen.…”

“…Niesteroidowe leki przeciwzapalne są częstą przyczyną fotonadwrażliwości po podaniu doustnym i miejscowym. NLPZ mogą powodować zarówno fototoksyczność, jak ma to miejsce w przypadku naproksenu, jak i fotoalergię, co jest charakterystyczne dla ketoprofenu, benzydaminy i diklofenaku [45,46].…”
