“…1 The enormous variety of phytochemicals present in plants has positioned them as an invaluable source of medicines for humans, even after the latest advances in synthetic drug development. 2 Moreover, their beneficial effects seem to be improved in combinations of herbal remedies due to synergistic effects between different plants. In order to avail this kind of interaction, there are several studies supporting the optimization of plant-based products' application and aiming to explain the mechanisms underlying the synergistic actions between bioactive compounds of different herbs.…”

“…Apart from this, other investigations also revealed that methanol extracts of individual plants were more effective than their respective aqueous extracts (Opoku et al, 2000;Shoba and Thomas, 2001). This might be due to the possible presence of organic compounds, particularly the phytochemicals which were reported to be indirect contributors of plant growth and development, in methanol extract (Murphy et al, 2000;Salim et al, 2008). However, it might also be explained in the opposite way, whereby, the non-polar compounds present abundantly in methanol extracts might not have thoroughly dissolved in water; hence, expressed the effect of tap water rather than that of the extract itself.…”

“…According to World Health Organization, traditional herbal remedies are still extensively used, especially in rural regions with restricted access to modern medicines [3]. Investigation of pain relief potential of plant-based remedies used in traditional medicine is one viable way of discovering new analgesic agents which could be beneficial in pain management [4].…”
