“…Multiple Pharmacologic Agents for Prophylaxis of Nausea and Vomiting. New RCTs comparing two antiemetic drugs with single antiemetic drug controls corroborate findings reported in the original Guidelines indicating that antiemetic combinations are effective in the prophylaxis of postoperative nausea and vomiting (Category A2-B evidence) with no differences in headache, dizziness, drowsiness, anxiety, or akathisia/restlessness reported 3,10,11,26,36,42,[57][58][59][60][61][62][63][64][65][66] (Category A2-E evidence). These RCTs consisted of comparisons among a variety of drug combinations, and the number of studies evaluating similar drug combinations was insufficient for meta-analysis.…”

“…Dolasetron also reduced the postoperative MCP consumption (rescue medication) when compared with DHB and placebo, whereas in DHB-treated patients no significantly lower MCP consumption was found when compared with placebo-treated patients. In contrast to the findings presented here, Eberhart et al (2004) reported on a benefit of DHB when compared with dolasetron in patients undergoing vitrectomy. This conflicting result might be interpreted in a way that the effectiveness of antiemetics depends to some degree on the different type of surgery.…”

“…PONV prophylaxis using DHB is a frequent worldwide approach (Eberhart et al, 2004). Two metaanalyses proved the efficacy of DHB (numbers needed to treat ¼ 5e7) in the prevention of PONV (Henzi et al, 2000;Eberhart et al, 2001).…”

“…All antiemetic agents involved in this study previously were studied extensively and their efficacy in PONV reduction is known [10,13,[19][20][21][22][23][24][25]. Previous studies, such as the multicenter trial of Apfel et al in 2004, also have shown that antiemetic combinations are effective in reducing PONV, particularly in high-risk patients [7,9,10].…”
