Purpose This paper aims to explore the overall research question “How can artificial intelligence (AI) influence consumer information disclosure?”. It considers how anthropomorphism of AI, personalisation and privacy concerns influence consumers’ attitudes and encourage disclosure of their private information. Design/methodology/approach This research draws upon the personalisation-privacy paradox (PPP) and privacy calculus theory (PCT) to address the research question and examine how AI can influence consumer information disclosure. It is proposed that anthropomorphism of AI and personalisation positively influence consumer attitudes and intentions to disclose personal information to a digital assistant, while privacy concerns negatively affect attitude and information disclosure. Findings This paper develops a conceptual model based on and presents seven research propositions (RPs) for future research. Originality/value Building upon PPP and PCT, this paper presents a view on the benefits and drawbacks of AI from a consumer perspective. This paper contributes to literature by critically reflecting upon on the question how consumer information disclosure is influenced by AI. In addition, seven RPs and future research areas are outlined in relation to privacy and consumer information disclosure in relation to AI.

PurposeThe circular economy (CE) represents an industry-wide transition from linear to circular processes. There has been a proliferation of literature on CE in the last decade. However, the existing studies on the adaption of CE in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are scarce. This study aims to develop a research agenda and the way forward for future researchers focusing on the adoption of CE.Design/methodology/approachThis article analyses the CE concepts through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Coding and content analysis are performed to generate emergent themes with the help of “Atlas.ti” software.FindingsThe authors uncovered the contemporary significance of adopting CE and the state-of-the-art literature on CE. The study's findings fall into four broad themes: Technical know-how, resource and process optimization, reverse practices and technology and innovation. Ten thought-provoking questions were identified in the four themes that researchers can explore further in embracing CE to achieve sustainability in SMEs.Practical implicationsThe study has highlighted the importance of CE adoption and CE's benefits to stakeholders across all three dimensions, i.e. social, economic and ecological. Practitioners can use the agenda in four themes to strengthen the practitioners' existing practices in SMEs to promote CE.Originality/valueThe study's uniqueness is the supply of current knowledge from diverse literature and practical consequences for SMEs. This study opens new lines of inquiry to adopt CE in SMEs, streamlining the existing literature into four themes to focus future research.

This study explored circular economy (CE) performance in small‐ and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism sector. The study's theoretical framework comprised value–belief–norm theory, institutional theory, upper echelon theory (UET), and the dynamic capabilities (DCs) approach. Empirical data from 286 Indian SMEs were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. The results indicated that personal norms, coercive pressures (CP), mimetic pressures (MP), and top management commitment toward the environment influenced CE performance through DCs. However, normative pressures (NP) did not significantly influence CE performance. DCs were a catalyst enabling individual beliefs, organizational factors, and external pressures to push SMEs toward a CE. Nevertheless, possibly due to insufficient resources, SMEs were reluctant in improving their CE performance. Policymakers and SME owners should therefore develop DCs in their organizations to achieve CE performance through appropriate resource assessment and design.
