Driver Training Simulator for Backing Up Commercial Vehicles with Trailers

Abstract: Backing up tractors with trailers is a difficult task since the kinematic behavior of articulated vehicles is complex and hard to control. Especially unskilled drivers are overstrained with the complicated steering process. To learn and practice the steering behavior of articulated vehicles, we developed a 3D driving simulator. The simulator can handle different types of articulated vehicles like semi-trailers, oneand two-axle trailers, or gigaliners. The use of a driving simulator offers many advantages over … Show more

“…First, the system needs to make clear the process characteristics of vehicle driving behaviors. Then it should study the signal collection, transmission and control [5]. On this basis, it can realize automatic inspection and monitoring, guidance and management in electronic pile driving training, venue training.…”

“…On the one hand, there are those who defend that a simulator can never be compared to real driving [ 16 , 17 , 18 ]. On the other hand, other authors clearly bet on increasing the use of simulators as training tools [ 19 , 20 ], since this allows them to select the situations that they want to reproduce (rain, snow, a traffic accident, etc.) while providing safety for novice users.…”
