Drimane-Type Sesquiterpenoids Derived from the Tropical Basidiomycetes Perenniporia centrali-africana and Cerrena sp. nov

Abstract: Five new drimane-type sesquiterpenoids were isolated from cultures of the tropical basidiomycetes, Perenniporia centrali-africana (originating from Kenya) and Cerrena sp. nov. (originating from Thailand). A new pereniporin A derivative (1), a new drimane-type sesquiterpene lactam (2), and the new 6,7-Dehydro-isodrimenediol (3) were isolated from P. centrali-africana. In parallel, the two new drimane-type sesquiterpene lactams 5 and 6 were isolated together with known isodrimenediol (4) from Cerrena sp. This is… Show more

“…All the isolated compounds were devoid of any significant activities in both the antimicrobial (12 strains) and cytotoxicity assays (two cell lines). Similar compounds have been reported to exhibit low to no activities in equivalent studies . Supported by the reported neurite outgrowth activity of other drimane sesquiterpenoids isolated from Cyathus africanus and C. stercoreus , , we decided to assess 1 – 6 in a neurite outgrowth assay in rat pheochromocytoma cells (PC-12), a well-established model system .…”

“…Fungal natural products continue to offer great potential for new innovative drugs . Novel species of Basidiomycota, the second largest group of fungi after the Ascomycota, collected from Thailand have proven to be a rich source of new metabolites in our screening program for new secondary metabolites. The present study deals with a Basidiomycota collected from northeastern Thailand and its secondary metabolites.…”
