Drilling performances and wear characteristics of coated drill bits during drilling reinforced concrete

Abstract: This paper deals with the investigation on the microstructure and wear behavior of uncoated, Al2O3‐13 wt% TiO2, and WC‐12 wt% Co‐coated drill bits intended for drilling reinforced concrete. Atmospheric plasma spraying technique was employed to fabricate the above coatings on high speed steel drill bits. The circularity measurements of the drilled holes were carried out using MATLAB. The holes drilled using WC‐12 wt% Co‐coated drill bit showed a better circularity depicting enhanced wear resistance as compared … Show more

“…Nondestructive testing should cover from 2% (for good homogeneity) to 100% (for poor homogeneity) of the girders in a given structure [ 45 ]. Examples of the application of the “direct” method can be found in the literature [ 68 , 69 ].…”

“…Metal based diamond tools can obtain stronger mechanical properties compared with resin and ceramic based tools, and thus have been widely applied in oil and gas drilling, mineral resources exploration, geotechnical investigation and surveying, repair and reconstruction for reinforced concrete structures, etc. [1][2][3][4]. Those diamond tools typically include impregnated diamond bits, saws, wires and wheels [5][6][7][8], all of which can be employed for some specific industries and environments.…”
