Dressings and topical agents for treating venous leg ulcers

Abstract: More research is needed to determine whether particular dressings or topical agents improve the probability of healing of venous leg ulcers. However, the NMA is uninformative regarding which interventions might best be included in a large trial, largely because of the low certainty of the whole network and of individual comparisons. The results of this NMA focus exclusively on complete healing; whilst this is of key importance to people living with venous leg ulcers, clinicians may wish to take into account oth… Show more

“…Physicochemical properties of the Ag-Si/Al 2 O 3 sorbents presented on Table 2 were calculated by Rachkovskaya et al [41]. It can be seen that the proportion of loaded content of Ag present in the sorbent quantified by optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) from this study, where sample content is 0.01% Ag with the exception of sorbent Ag-Si/Al 2 O 3 -2 (0.003% Ag), the content of Ag in samples is related to its antimicrobial activity [14][15][16]. In the case of the particle sizes was assessed by screen size gradation (0.1-1 mm) [41], being an important parameter for water absorption, due to a reported relationship between the increment of particle size decreases mechanical parameters and increases water absorption [60], the sorbents from this work possess high particle size expecting adequate ability for water uptake.…”

“…(Game and Jeffcoate, 2016;Pagnamenta, 2017;. The need for high quality randomized controlled trials on the effectiveness of dressing products with further evidence synthesis, including systematic reviews, overviews of reviews and network metaanalysis, are warranted (Dumville et al, 2013c;Wu et al, 2015;Moore and Webster, 2018;Norman et al, 2018). However, there are many challenges related to evidence generation in wound care , including dressing selection (Pagnamenta, 2017).…”

“…The combination of wound dressings and multiple lamination treatments may exert the best therapeutic effect. At the meantime, a network metaanalysis show that silver-containing dressings can increase the likelihood of VLU healing, but because of the small number of related studies and high risk of bias, the most effective treatment is still not determined (Norman et al, 2018). This results of this network meta-analysis focus exclusively on complete healing, did not take other important outcomes into consideration.…”
