Dressed spin of polarized3He in a cell

Abstract: We report a measurement of the modification of the effective precession frequency of polarized 3 He atoms in response to a dressing field in a room temperature cell. The 3 He atoms were polarized using the metastability spin-exchange method. An oscillating dressing field is then applied perpendicular to the constant magnetic field. Modification of the 3 He effective precession frequency was observed over a broad range of the amplitude and frequency of the dressing field. The observed effects are compared with … Show more

“…Note in regard to the latter that spin dressing of 3 He in an atomic beam [68,69] and in a cell [75] has been previously demonstrated. Similarly, critical spin dressing on 1 H and 19 F in a liquid sample has also been performed [61].…”

“…That modification producing a magnetic "freezing" of the two-level response, (i.e. a nonmagnetic system), was examined for atoms in [3][4][5][6], for a Bose-Einstein condensate of chromium in [7], for an artificial atom in [8], and recently proposed for improving the precision of optical clocks [9].…”

“…One might be able to study the breakdown of the quasistatic approximation using a cell-type experiment, such as that presented in Ref. [15]. In this case, one would use a rapidly modulated dressing field to explore appropriate regions of parameter space.…”
