Draft Genome Sequences of Citrobacter freundii Strains CF04 and A41 Isolated from Moribund, Septicemic Giant Gourami ( Osphronemus goramy) in Sri Lanka

Abstract: Citrobacter freundii is a Gram-negative opportunistic pathogen associated with many infectious conditions including septicemia in humans and animals. Here, we announce the draft genome sequences of two multidrug-resistant C. freundii strains (CF04 and A41) isolated from septicemic giant gourami (Osphronemus goramy) collected from aquaria in Sri Lanka.

“…Strain A41 was found in GenBank as the closest relative genome of strain BR102 T and was included for further analysis. Strain A41 was isolated from moribund giant gourami (Osphronemus goramy) in Sri Lanka and it was previously identified as C. freundii although no information about the method used for identification at species level has been provided [10]. The average nucleotide identity (ANI) was calculated by JSpeciesWS [11] and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) was performed using the Genome-to-Genome Distance Calculator under the recommended formula 2 [12].…”

“…Gram staining was performed using a Gram-staining kit (bioMérieux). Growth at different NaCl concentrations (0, 3.0, 6.0, 9.0, 12.0 and 15.0 %, w/v) and temperatures (5,10,15,20,25,30,37, 42 and 50 °C) were examined by using TSB as the basal medium. Strain BR102 T was inoculated into TSB tubes with paraffin on top to confirm the anaerobic growth ability.…”
