Draft genome sequences for Ceratocystis fagacearum, C. harringtonii, Grosmannia penicillata, and Huntiella bhutanensis

Abstract: Draft genomes for the fungi Ceratocystis fagacearum, C. harringtonii, Grosmannia penicillata, and Huntiella bhutanensis are presented. Ceratocystis fagacearum is a major causal agent of vascular wilt of oaks and other trees in the family Fagaceae. Ceratocystis harringtonii, previously known as C. populicola, causes disease in Populus species in the USA and Canada. Grosmannia penicillata is the causal agent of bluestain of sapwood on various conifers, including Picea spp. and Pinus spp. in Europe. Huntiella bh… Show more

“…In this study, we aimed to produce a draft genome assembly for C. smalleyi . This assembly would be the seventh Ceratocystis species for which a genome sequence is published, and adds to the valuable genomic resource available for members of Ceratocystidaceae ( Molano et al 2018 , Van der Nest et al 2014a , b , 2015 , Vanderpool et al 2017 , Wilken et al 2013 , 2018 , Wingfield et al 2015a , b , 2016a , b ). Furthermore, the availability of a genome assembly will afford the opportunity in future to investigate aspects of the unique biology of C. smalleyi .…”

“…Sequences obtained from the epitype have been deposited in the RefSeq Targeted Loci (RTL) database in NCBI GenBank to enable accurate and reliable identifications when BLAST searches are conducted (Schoch et al 2014). In addition, a draft genome sequence for the ex-epitype culture has already been generated and is publicly available (Wingfield et al 2016). The typifications together with the formal proposal will serve to stabilize the nomenclature of the oak wilt fungus.…”
