Draft Genome Sequence of the Live Vaccine Strain Brucella abortus 82

Abstract: Vaccination is a crucial part of the brucellosis eradication programs worldwide. A live vaccine strain of Brucella abortus 82 has been successfully used for the vaccination of cattle against brucellosis in the former Soviet republics for the last 39 years. Here, we report the genome sequence of Brucella abortus 82.

“…Since the mid-70s, B . abortus strain 82 has been used to vaccinate all groups of cattle along with state-wide test and slaughter program, which led to a gradual decrease of incidence in herds [39, 40], reaching its minimum (1.4%) in 1989. Hypothetically, continuation of this combined strategy would eradicate brucellosis from cattle.…”

“…In the recent past, there has been an increase in alarming rate of seroprevalence in strains affecting both human and cattle, with the latter proving to be disastrous for agricultural growth (Moreno 2014). Although complete genomes were obtained for many Brucella species, however not all these data are adequate to understand the bacterial pathogenesis leading to genomewide association studies (Shevtsov et al 2013;Shome et al 2013). Besides, our understanding of genetic variation and epidemiology advanced with next generation sequencing (NGS) of Brucella spp., and provided a challenge to understand the sequences of these genomes better.…”

“…Scraping and walking jar therapy has been proved to exhibit a significant effect on suffocation‐like pain in the back complicated by brucellosis, with the advantages of simple operation and nontoxic side effects and is thus worthy of being promoted in the clinic. Using fire acupuncture to treat joint effusion complicated by brucellosis can reach an 87.5% cure rate [48]. Patients with bone and joint pain complicated by brucellosis can be treated by identifying and selecting points and methods [49].…”
