Draft Genome Sequence of Erythromycin- and Oxytetracycline-Sensitive Nocardia seriolae Strain U-1 (NBRC 110359)

Abstract: In Japan, the emergence of macrolide- and oxytetracycline-resistant strains of Nocardia seriolae has previously been reported. Here, we describe the draft genome sequence of N. seriolae strain U-1, isolated in 2011 from a diseased yellowtail in Kagoshima Prefecture. The draft genome does not have any genes responsible for macrolide and tetracycline resistance.

“…For the comparison between Nocardia species, the genomes of N. acidivorans NBRC 108247 (Kampfer et al., ), N. concava NBRC 100430 (Hirayama et al., ), N. crassostreae NBRC 100342 (Friedman et al., ), N. inohanensis NBRC 100128 (Kageyama, Yazawa, Nishimura, & Mikami, ), N. jejuensis NBRC 103114 (Lee, ), N. niigatensis NBRC 100131 (Kageyama et al., ), and N. yamanashiensis NBRC 100130 (Kageyama et al., ) were obtained from EzBioCloud. For comparison between N. seriolae strains, the genomes of the strains N‐2927 (Imajoh et al., ), U‐1 (Imajoh et al., ), and ZJ0503 (Xia et al., ) were also downloaded from EzBioCloud, and the nucleotide sequences from the strains SY‐24 (unpublished) and UTF1 (Yasuike et al., ) were downloaded from the NCBI genome database. For consistency of gene prediction and functional annotation of the analyzed genomes, the genome sequences of the strains SY‐24 and UTF1 were uploaded to the Whole Genome (WG) pipeline of BIOiPLUG (https://www.bioiplug.com, ChunLab Inc., Seoul, Republic of Korea) and quality‐controlled genome information was obtained.…”

“…Draft genome sequences of N. seriolae were reported (Imajoh et al., , ; Xia, Cai, et al., ) and contained drug‐resistant genes. Moreover, some potential virulence‐associated factors of N. seriolae were detected in the sequence, such as mammalian cell entry family protein, ATP‐binding cassette transporters, capsular polysaccharides, myosin cross‐reactive antigen, fibronectin‐binding protein, sortase A, ESX‐1 and serine protease.…”

“…The open reading frame (ORF) of No protein superfamily members of protein MTSP3141 were found. had a rather high homology in Nocardia species (61%-84%) and its sequence was also found in other sequenced N. seriolae stains, such as N. seriolae N-2927 (Imajoh et al, 2015), N. seriolae U-1 (Imajoh et al, 2016), N. seriolae EM150506, N. seriolae CK-14008 and N. seriolae UTF-1 (Yasuike et al, 2017). Multiple alignment of the deduced amino acid sequences of the protein MTSP3141 showed no putative conserved domains were found (Figure 2a).…”
