Downstream Characterization of an Atmospheric Pressure Pulsed Arc Jet

Abstract: An atmospheric pressure nitrogen plasma jet sustained by a repetitive pulsed DC power source is studied. The afterglow characteristics of this plasma jet are studied by an optical emission spectrometer and thermocouples. The effects of the process parameters, namely the applied voltage and the gas flow rate, on the plasma characteristics are investigated. It is shown that the plasma reactivity is controlled by the power deposition to the plasma as well as the decay process of the reactive species upon formatio… Show more

“…Special attention is paid to avoid possible perturbations on the GIWs electrical characteristics, by placing it as it is shown in the lower frame of Figure 2. This method is the same with the one used in [41] and it allows reliable control of the thermal processes evolved during the reactor operation. The overall error on the measured temperature (i.e., error of For the measurement of the dielectric tube temperature, a thermocouple (National Instruments 9211, Nanterre, France) is mounted near to its orifice (see Figure 1), allowing for real time monitoring in a personal computer.…”
